National Literacy Directory :: Cohort 2 Applications :: March 15

National Literacy Directory
Adult Learning Communities
Now accepting applications for Cohort 2!

In 2018, the National Literacy Directory introduced a pilot program for adult educators: NLD Adult Learning Communities. Adult educators from 12 states across the country created an online community by sharing best practices on improving student recruitment, engagement, and persistence, and they have begun to implement projects in their communities from the knowledge gained.

We have identified teaching strategies for adult English language learning as our next cohort topic. The NLD will choose up to 12 organizations to participate in an eight-week online cohort to explore current research and best practices to teach adult English language learners. Participants will identify a problem of practice and create an innovation to address the problem. Organizations will then share their innovation with the field via the NLD website.

The NLD will agree to
➤Provide an online 8-week course on teaching strategies for adult English language learners.
➤ Offer ongoing coaching to develop innovation.
➤ Highlight program innovations and results so others can benefit.
➤ Give a $2,000 stipend to be used for the innovation upon successful completion of the cohort.
➤ Provide funds for travel and registration for the 2019 NCFL Conference.

Chosen organizations will agree to
➤ Complete the online course.
➤ Participate in an introductory meeting.
➤ Design and field test a program innovation that improves instruction.
➤ Agree to share their innovation with others.
➤ Use $2,000 stipend for program innovation.
➤ Travel to and present results at the 2019 NCFL conference.
