Everybody Wins! Iowa Receives Library of Congress State Literacy Award

The State Library is pleased to announce that Everybody Wins! Iowa, the recipient of the 2018 Iowa Literacy Award, will also receive a 2019 State Literacy Award from the Library of Congress.

The award recognizes the organization’s outstanding contributions to the promotion of literacy and reading in the community, and comes with an additional $2,225 to further their efforts to expand literacy in Iowa.

Everybody Wins! Iowa matches volunteer reading mentors one-to-one with a student for about an hour each week to read together and engage in conversation. Students are suggested for the program by teachers, based on three areas: if they are struggling with reading, are English language learners, or if they might benefit from having positive ongoing mentoring experience. These consistent, positive interactions provide students with a dependable role model who works to strengthen their confidence with regard to reading.

Everybody Wins! Iowa was one of nine organizations from across the country to receive a 2019 State Literacy Award. The nine nominating organizations and their winning nominees include:
