Increasing Public Awareness of Low Adult Literacy
ProLiteracy Blog: 9.12.2017 by Jennifer Paulding; Facts & ResearchAdvocacy

ProLiteracy conducted an Omnibus survey this spring to gauge the national public awareness of adult literacy. With the data collected from 1,000 respondents, we discovered some significant results:

Are you aware that adult literacy is an issue in the United States: YES-77%   NO-23%

Are you aware of adult literacy programs in your community: NO-89%   YES-11%

Education has continued to drop since 2015 when it ranked as one of the most important, from 22% in 2015 to 18% in 2017. Poverty, unemployment, and economic growth also continued to drop and rank lower since 2015.
